Chapter 61 · Account, Plans, and Privacy
Connecting an AI Assistant
You can let an AI assistant of your own, such as Claude Desktop, read your projects and run a fact-check on your behalf. This chapter covers the key that allows it, what each permission opens, and how to take it away. One thing holds whatever you tick: no tool on this connection can change a word of your manuscript.
What a connection is
Storskarvia speaks MCP, the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI assistants to call
tools on other services. The address is https://storskarvia.com/mcp.
Five tools there are public and need no key: what Storskarvia is, its features, its pricing, the list of guides, and one guide in full. An assistant can use those the moment you add the address. Everything about your work needs a personal key, made on the Account page under MCP access (for AI agents).
Making a key
- In What is this key for?, give it a name you will recognise later, such as the assistant's name or the laptop it runs on. Up to 80 characters. A key left blank shows as Unlabelled.
- Under What this key may do, tick the boxes it needs (next section).
- Press Generate a key.
The key appears once, in a box above the list. It starts skv_, and clicking the
box selects all of it. Copy it before you leave the page. Storskarvia keeps only a
scrambled fingerprint of the key, so nobody, staff included, can show it to you again. If you
lose it, revoke it and generate another.
You can hold up to ten active keys. Making a new one leaves the others working, so the safe habit is one key per assistant, each with only what that assistant needs.
The three boxes
| Box | What the assistant can do | Shown under Can as |
|---|---|---|
| Read (ticked by default) | List your projects, read the full text of any document you own, and read the findings of a check. | read |
| Write | Save findings from its own fact-check to one of your documents. | write |
| Search | Have Storskarvia look up sources on Wikipedia and web search for claims the assistant picks. Rate-limited, and it does not use your monthly allowance. | search |
Three things the boxes do not say outright:
- Read means the whole text. An assistant with Read can fetch every document you own, word for word, including documents set to zero retention, which it reads from your Dropbox or Google Drive. What it does with them afterwards is governed by its maker's terms, as Your Data and Your Privacy explains. Documents other writers shared with you stay out of reach.
- Tick Search whenever you tick Write. Every finding the assistant saves has to cite sources that Storskarvia's own search returned, and a key without Search cannot ask for them.
- Ticking nothing gives Read. The narrowest key is the one you get by default.
An assistant cannot create or delete projects, start one of Storskarvia's own checks, edit text, see anyone else's account, or change your settings, whatever you tick.
Adding it to your assistant
In your assistant's connector or MCP settings, add a server at https://storskarvia.com/mcp and
send the key as a header on the connection itself:
Authorization: Bearer skv_…
The key goes in the connection settings once. It is not something you paste into the chat, and an assistant that asks you to type it into a message is set up wrongly. Each assistant names this setting differently, so follow its own instructions for custom headers.
The assistant can list your projects by title, but that list does not include the documents
inside them. To point it at one, open the document and give it the number at the end of the
address: storskarvia.com/doc/1234.
An assistant's own fact-check
With all three boxes ticked, an assistant can run a fact-check on its own reasoning, using Storskarvia's sources. It works in three steps: it reads the document and Storskarvia's method, asks for sources one claim at a time, then saves what it found. Storskarvia enforces the rules along the way:
- Before it can save, the assistant has to show you a notice that begins "HEADS UP FROM STORSKARVIA" and says the judgment is the assistant's, not Storskarvia's staff pipeline. If it does not pass that notice back word for word, nothing is stored.
- Each finding must quote your text exactly and cite at least one source Storskarvia returned. Sources are good for two hours after the search. One bad finding rejects the whole batch, so nothing is ever half-saved.
- A batch holds at most 60 findings.
The result opens in the document's fact-check panel like any other, under a red-ruled banner reading Checked by your own AI agent. Read it with more suspicion than a staff check: an assistant's judgment is less consistent and it may miss real problems. Reading Findings covers the panel itself. Running a check of your own afterwards replaces it in the panel with the newer result.
Cutting it off
Each key is listed with its name, what it Can do, when it was Created, and when it was Last used.
- Revoke beside a key ends that one. Your other keys keep working.
- Revoke every key, in red below the list, ends all of them. Use it if a laptop goes missing or you are not sure which key went where.
Both ask you to confirm. Revocation takes effect on the assistant's next request; one already in flight may finish. A revoked key cannot be brought back.
Last used updates at most once an hour, so a key used minutes ago can read as earlier. A key that still says never long after you made it was never connected, and is a good one to revoke.
To change what a key can do, generate a new key with the right boxes, swap it into the assistant, then revoke the old one. A key's permissions cannot be edited in place.
When it goes wrong
The assistant usually relays Storskarvia's message to you. The common ones:
| The message starts | What it means |
|---|---|
| "This tool requires a Storskarvia API key." | The connection has no
Authorization header, or the key was pasted into the chat instead. |
| "That Storskarvia API key is invalid, revoked, or expired." | Keys have no expiry date, so the key was revoked or copied incompletely. Generate a new one. |
| "This Storskarvia key does not carry the 'checks' scope." | checks is
the Search box. The same message with 'write' means the
Write box. Make a key with the box ticked. |
| "You already have 10 active keys." | Revoke one you no longer use. |
| "Each 'quote' must be a verbatim substring of the document text" | The assistant misquoted you, or you edited the passage after it read the document. Ask it to read the document again. |
| "None of this finding's sources carry valid Storskarvia evidence." | The sources are more than two hours old or the assistant altered them. It should search again. |
| "Nothing to check yet" | The document is empty, or nearly so. |
Each step is also capped per hour: 60 document reads, 150 source searches, and 60 saves. Past that, the assistant is told it is calling too fast and should wait before trying again.
For the plans themselves, see Plans and Allowances. When you are done with Storskarvia for good, Leaving, and Taking Everything With You covers closing the account, which revokes every key with it.
